What is fall prevention?
Strategies and interventions designed to reduce the risk of falls in elderly adults, including home modifications, exercise programs, medication reviews, vision checks, and daily monitoring.
Falls are the leading cause of injury and injury-related death among adults 65 and older. One in four seniors falls each year, and falling once doubles the risk of falling again. Effective fall prevention combines multiple approaches: removing home hazards (loose rugs, poor lighting), strength and balance exercises, reviewing medications that cause dizziness, regular vision checks, and — critically — daily monitoring for early warning signs like unsteadiness, dizziness, or weakness. A daily check-in call catches these warning signs before they lead to a fall.
