What is wellness check?

A scheduled visit, call, or contact to assess an elderly person's physical, emotional, and cognitive wellbeing. Wellness checks can be performed by family, community services, or technology-based solutions like daily AI phone calls.

Wellness checks range from informal ("I called Mom to see how she is") to formal programs operated by police departments, community organizations, or home health agencies. Police wellness checks are typically one-time events triggered by concern — a family member calls when they cannot reach their parent. Scheduled daily wellness calls provide a fundamentally different value: consistent, proactive monitoring that catches gradual changes before they become emergencies. The shift from reactive wellness checks to proactive daily check-ins represents a significant improvement in elderly care.
